Years ago, when I was a teaching assistant on a Holocaust literature course while doing my MA -- a random assignment since I had no expertise; I just had to mark quizzes and operate the AV equipment for the prof -- I was taken aback by how few students were initially aware of all the many different populations in the camps. Books like this are needed to round out the picture.
