As I've said in the note I wrote when I re-stacked this post, this translation shines a light on a little-read page of the darkest chapter of the history of the 20th century. Years ago, when I was a teaching assistant on a Holocaust literature course while doing my MA -- a random assignment since I had no expertise; I just had to mark quizzes and operate the AV equipment for the prof -- I was taken aback by how few students were initially aware of all the many different populations in the camps. Books like this are needed to round out the picture.
